How we count clicks

Last updated October 2026

Traffiklist sells one thing other launch boards mostly don't: proof of the traffic it sends. That proof is only worth something if you can see how it's counted, so this page lists every rule, the live numbers, and what the numbers can't tell you.

What a click is

Every link Traffiklist sends to a maker's site goes through a tracked redirect (/r/your-product). When someone follows it, we record the click and send them on to your site with utm_source=traffiklist and the placement (utm_content) added, so you can match our numbers against your own analytics.

What we don't count

Each click is checked before it counts. A click is set aside, and kept on record with its reason, when it is:

  • From a known bot or crawler: search engines, SEO tools, AI crawlers, uptime monitors, and the link-preview fetchers Slack, X, Discord, Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, LinkedIn and iMessage run when a link is shared.
  • From an automated browser, such as headless Chrome, Puppeteer or Playwright.
  • From a script: curl, Python, Node and other HTTP libraries or API clients.
  • Missing a real user-agent: empty or only a few characters.
  • A prefetch: a browser or proxy fetching the link before anyone clicked it.
  • A repeat: the same visitor clicking the same product again within 30 minutes counts once.
  • Part of a burst: more than 20 clicks from one visitor within 60 seconds, across all products.
  • Your own click: when you're signed in and open your own listing's link, it isn't recorded at all.

Paid ad placements are tracked for advertisers but are left out of the “clicks to makers” figures on the stats page and out of board rankings. Clicks on the Traffiklist badge on your own site lead to your listing page and aren't counted as clicks to you.

What “unique” means

A unique visitor is a distinct hashed IP address. We store a salted one-way hash, never the IP itself, so we can tell that two clicks came from the same visitor without knowing who that is. People on a shared network (an office, a university) can look like one visitor.

The numbers, live

Since September 18, 2026, we recorded 2,128 clicks on tracked links. 1,806 counted. 322 (15%) were set aside.

  • Repeat click within 30 minutes: 191
  • HTTP libraries and API clients: 125
  • Automated browsers: 5
  • Missing or stub user-agent: 1

What these numbers can't tell you

  • A click means a visitor arrived at our redirect. It doesn't mean they loaded your page, stayed, or signed up. Your own analytics will show a bit less than we do.
  • A determined bot that looks exactly like a normal browser can still get through. We'd rather say so than pretend otherwise.
  • Small numbers are normal. Most launches on a young board get a modest number of clicks, and we'd rather show that honestly than inflate it.

Disputes

If clicks on your listing look wrong, email [email protected] with the product and the dates. We review the raw records, and clicks that shouldn't have counted are removed from your totals.

Changes to these rules

October 2026: validation rules introduced. Every click recorded before this date was re-checked with the same rules, so totals on the board, your dashboard and the stats page are on one standard. When a rule changes, this page changes with it.
